What to Do After a Waste Ink Counter Reset

A post-reset checklist covering physical maintenance, leak checks, power cycling, counter verification and test printing after a supported waste-ink reset.

A successful counter reset is not the end of the maintenance job. The printer should be checked for the physical condition that caused the threshold, then restarted and observed to confirm that the correct counter was serviced and no unrelated fault remains.

Confirm the physical waste-ink path is safe

If the printer uses an internal absorber, confirm that the required physical service has been completed. If it uses a replaceable maintenance box, make sure the correct part is installed and seated properly.

Look around the printer for fresh ink leakage, saturated areas or unusual odour. A cleared message should never be used as the only proof that the waste system is safe.

Reboot and read the service state again

Close the service utility, wait until any write operation completes, then power-cycle the printer if the procedure requires it. Reconnect the utility and use a read/check function when available to confirm that the intended counter changed.

If the old value returns immediately or the warning remains, stop and verify whether the correct counter and correct model were selected.

Perform a controlled test print

Print a small test document or nozzle check rather than a large print job. Watch the printer during the first cleaning or print cycle after maintenance.

Listen for unusual mechanical noise and check that paper feeding, carriage movement and ink delivery appear normal. A service counter reset should not be used to hide a mechanical problem.

Document what was done

Record the date, counter name, value before service, value after service and any physical maintenance performed. This creates a useful maintenance history for the printer.

If the same warning returns unusually quickly, the record can help distinguish a genuine high-use condition from an incorrect reset, a second counter, or a hardware issue.

Practical checklist

✓

Complete the model-appropriate physical maintenance.

✓

Check for leakage or saturated waste areas.

✓

Power-cycle only after the utility has finished writing.

✓

Read the serviced counter again if possible.

✓

Run a small test print or nozzle check.

✓

Record the maintenance date and counter values.

NEXT STEP

Continue with the exact printer model

Use the model library for exact compatibility notes, or open Printer Errors if the issue is a specific warning or symptom.
